I love old, vintage and shabby. Give me a white picket fence & farmhouse with chickens, horses and grandchildren any day. I love to garden and watch things blossom. Nature is amazing all by itself. I love "old souls" who know the meaning of life and are willing to share it with you. Watching the waves crash against the beach is better than therapy. I wish I learned how to surf. But I will teach my grandchild. PS. I have integrated my etsy shop into this blog.

Turkeys Have Feelings Too
Oh, it is that time of year again. The leaves have fallen. We can have frost at night. It may be time to turn the heat on....even here in Florida. We actually turned the heat on because I was chilly. And believe me when I say that I am cold it is cold out. Being from CT I should be used to the colder weather. But I guess my blood is getting thinner. Oh but enough of me. Let's talk "turkey". Thanksgiving is on the 4th Thursday in Nov. I never realized there were so many varieties of these gobblers. Some are very colorful. They kinda remind me of peacocks well maybe not. But they do have feathers and make a lot of noise. The President will pardon 2 of them from getting their heads chopped off. How big of him to do that. Anyway, here are some pics of these wobbly birds. Enjoy.

1950s Pink Homer Laughlin "Springtime" Vintage Dishes
Down on the farm we don't need expensive china. I prefer using vintage dishes that have character. Check out these 1955 dishes by Homer Laughlin. They are from the "Springtime" pattern. Pink rim and platinum trim. This set is for sale in my Etsy store.

Biscuits and Gravy What a Way To Start The Morning Off
Biscuits and gravy. What a way to start the morning off. Coming from Yankee country I had never heard of this till I went to visit my brother in Tenn. Well I am not sure I could eat this everyday but I will say that it was amazing. On a cold morning with a hot cup of Joe and you are ready to go plow the fields. I found this recipe from
http://bevcooks.com/2013/01/herbed-buttermilk-biscuits-with-sausage-gravy/she gives step by step instructions. Enjoy it.

A Farm Life For Me. What It Should Be Like.
Life on a farm can be hard yet so rewarding. Growing your own food and raising animals takes a lot of patience. Canning and smoking meats to get you through the rough times is challenging. Oh but the prize is in the peaceful times of making a apple pie getting your fresh eggs from the barn. Watching your horses and cows graze in the fields. Sitting down with a cup of tea with your neighbors on the front stoop. Watching the sun go down in the west.

If French blue is your color then you are going to love this farmhouse salt glazed pottery pitcher. As a decoration by itself or with faux Gerber Daisies like the ones below. This can be the focal point of your old oak table with vintage doilies underneath.
Watch this video and see how salt glazed pottery is made.
